State Resource Coordinator for Energy
Daniel Lawse

Daniel Lawse has served as the Coordinator of Sustainable Practices at MCC since June of 2009. Sustainability initiatives since this time include a cooperative effort with Metro, resulting in the Pass to Class program; improved and expanded recycling; and several new sustainability classes in Sustainable Energy Technology, Residential Energy Management and Green Living Workshops through Continuing Education. Daniel is actively engaged in the greater Omaha sustainability efforts. He sits on the Building Construction and Resource Conservation Subcommittees for Environment Omaha, Activate Omaha's Leadership Team, Omaha by Design's Livability Roundtable, and is founding member of the Green Neighborhood Council and the Green Omaha Coalition. He believes in a collaborative approach to finding synergistic economic, environmental, and social opportunities in our community and demonstrates his commitment to these beliefs daily in both his work with MCC and his involvement in the Omaha community.

He is also a principal and founder of Omaha's first sustainability consulting firm, the Verdis Group. With his business partner Craig Moody, their mission is to help organizations make true green decisions. By focusing on the five main elements of sustainability–food, water, energy, transportation and stuff–the Verdis Group assists organizations of all shapes and sizes in improving their triple bottom line.

As a Home Energy Rater, Daniel has helped Omaha residents to save energy through the Neighborhood Energy Savings Program . He has presented throughout the Midwest on topics including Community Sustainability, Green Business, Green Living, and Green Homes and works with both the private and non-profit sectors in areas of sustainability and efficient resource management. Daniel holds a BA in Theology from Creighton University and a Masters of Community and Regional Planning with an emphasis on sustainability and energy planning from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He has more than nine years of experience creating sustainable solutions that work for businesses, schools, governments, homeowners, and non-profits.
